It wasn’t just British pop music that became hugely popular from the mid-1960s onwards though, British fashions took center-stage too as London’s Carnaby Street and Kings Road designers flooded markets worldwide with new looks that the youth of the time just couldn’t get enough of.
What makes the 1960s so interesting though is that it started with the innocence of the 1950s, progressed with the sophistication of the British pop music and fashion invasion and ended with undertones of social unrest and defiance that were fuelled by discontentment with the establishment and the Vietnam War. The many cultural facets of the 1960s, make it a great fancy dress theme for any occasions and present a huge range of 60s costume options for you to truly get into the 60s spirit.
This anti-establishment sentiment in the late 1960s opened the doors for the popular folk sounds of Bob Dylan, The Mama’s and the Papa’s, Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Paul and Mary who in turn paved the way for the heavy rock sounds of Janis Joplin, Jimmi Hendrix, Iron Butterfly, Led Zeppelin and Cream towards the end of the decade.
With such a colorful and eventful decade as a theme for a 60s fancy dress party, costume choices are plentiful. Mods, rebellious hippies, mini skirts and dresses and bell bottom trousers ruled the day for the girls while the guys were either dressed in super-slick, clean-cut suits or they went for that rough-and-ready hippy or easy rider look. Either way, at Disguises in Brisbane we have the 1960s look you’re after so that you and your girl are a huge success at your next 1960s fancy dress party.
